INSTITUTE OF PEACE SUPPORT OPERATIONS
TRAINING SRI LANKA

COMMENCEMENT OF UNITED NATIONS STAFF OFFICERS COURSE - SL NO - 03

United Nations Staff Officers Course - SL NO-03 was commenced on 08 February 2021 in the main auditorium of Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL). The course was consisted with 32 student officers and it has designed to provide basic knowledge on practical and theoretical aspects of UN Staff Duties.

The short term aim of this training capsule is to prepare the selected officers to perform proficiently as staff officers at various HQs and contingents in United Nations Peace Support Operations. Further, all military personnel working under the Blue Helmet are first and foremost members of their own national armies and are then seconded to work under the command and control of the UN. This training programme targets all military personnel selected from various regiments of Sri Lanka Army to be deployed as Military Staff Officers in the future. UN military peacekeepers are often deployed in inhospitable, remote and dangerous environments where they face an unprecedented scale of challenges especially when protecting civilians, under asymmetric threats. So it is important to provide necessary knowledge to practice their services on the real ground.

By highlighting the above key points and requirements of a staff officer, the opening address was delivered by Lt Col RA Samaranayaka USP psc, the Chief Instructor of IPSOTSL.
