NEWLY GRADUATED “LURPS” TO 3 COMMANDO NEST

Two Officers and hundred and nine commandos, received Long Range Patrol (LRP) insignia on 3rd October 2023 at 3 Commando Regiment - Vavuniya during a glamorous Dusk ceremony. Major General P G P S Rathnayaka RWP RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding – 53 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment - Commando Regiment graced the LRP graduation ceremony as the Chief Guest. The dusk ceremony colored with pinning of LRP badges and awarding LRP knife to the newly graduated Commandos.

Maj E W R K L B Boyagoda RWP CR, the second in command- 3 Commando Regiment along with other officers of Commando Regiment extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest on arrival to the “LRRP NEST”. Ceremonial Guard of Honour awarded to the chief guest on his arrival to parade ground by graduating “LURPS” Commandos.

As most significant event of the day, pinning of the LRP Badges and awarding of LRP Knife awarded by Major General P G P S Rathnayaka RWP RSP ndc to the graduating Commandos together with Brigadier B M S K K Dharmawardena RWP RSP USP the Centre Commandant Commando Regiment, Brigadier G S K Perera RSP Brigade Commander 553 Infantry Brigade, Colonel R S C Dissanayaka RSP the Colonel General Staff of 56 Infantry division to those Officers and Other Ranks as symbols of their proud and prestigious identity.

Special awards were awarded for the Best LRP student and Best Navigator to Lieutenant M S Isuranga and the Best 8 Men Team of the course to A104 team. During chief guest address the Colonel of the regiment mentioned the inception of LRP operations and the history of the 3 Commando Regiment. Further he mentioned the requirement of maintain high standard of training ready to take over any future challenges as specially selected Commandos.

During the speech the chief guest paid a special tribute to the commandant, all the Instructors, of Commando Regiment Special Warfare Training School, Second in Command– 3 Commando Regiment for the contribution towards grooming of those special soldiers on to the nation.

The Dusk Graduation Ceremony ended up with get together with all invitees and graduates at Corporals’ Club. During get together, memento awarded to Major General Shanaka Ratnayaka to mark the occasion as chief guest. Senior Officers of army, the council members of Commando Regimental Council, officers of Commando Regiment and other ranks attended for the occasion.
