The 14th Colonel of the Regiment Commando Regiment Major General BPS de Silva RSP assumed duties on Tuesday (20) morning in a simple ceremony at Regimental headquarters Commando Regiment Ganemulla. A brief religious ceremony invoked blessings on the new appointment before Maj Gen Pradeep Silva formally signed a document to signify the acceptance of the new office at auspicious time.
Brigadier Uditha Bandara Brigadier General Staff –SFHQ (West) Commander Commando Brigade, Brigadier Anil Samarasiri ,Centre Commandant Colonel Shyamal Silva and other Senior Officers of the Commando Regiment attended the occasion.
He was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army on 17th March 1986 with Intake 23. After successful completion of his cadet training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, he was privileged to join with the prestigious Commando Regiment.
Since the graduation as a commando, he was mostly employed in operational areas where he was recognized as a brave young officer. He was an active member of Commando family who was able to fight fearlessly against the LTTE in the effort of the eradicating ruthless plague of terrorism from our mother land.
Major General Pradeep de Silva has taken part all most all the major offensives conducted by the commandos.Further, he has held many key appointments in the Army such as Center Commandant RHQ CR, in two occasions, Commander 513 Brigade, Deputy Div Commander - 58 Div, Brig (GS) SF HQ (MLT) and finally as a Director Dte of Welfare before he proceed for the Senior Command Programme - China in Year 2018.
