THE OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PAKISTAN HIGH COMMISSIONER 30 MAY 2024

The Pakistan High Commissioner visited the Commando Regiment Center, Ganemulla to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives and wounded during the Claymore attack that took place on 14 August 2006 at Kollupitiya. Due to that attack, four soldiers were killed, and one Commando soldier was critically injured. Thenrgent Saman Kumara EG, Corporal Chinthaka PGA RSP, Corporal Premajayantha MKGS RSP from the Commando Regiment, and Corporal Sisira Jayananadana SP from the Sri Lanka Signal Corps were the soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the thentan High Commissioner, His Excellency Bashir Wali Mohammed. Sargent Bandara MTNS was the senior non-commissioned officer who was critically injured due to the explosion.

However, because of the bravery and positional wisdom of the protectors of the then Pakistani High Commissioner, H.E. Bashir Wali Mohammed, he survived the bomb explosion and escaped unhurt.

To appreciate the heroic deed that soldiers did to protect the then High Commissioner, the Pakistani High Commission office donated gifts to the family members of the soldiers who were killed and wounded during the attack. The present Pakistani High Commissioner, His Excellency Major General Faheem Ul Aziz (Retd), Defense Advisor to the Pakistan High Commission Colonel Muhammad Farooq, General Officer Commanding 53 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment Commando Regiment Major General PGPS Rathnayaka RWP RSP ndc, Center Commandant Commando Regiment Brig BMSKK Dharmawardena RWP RSP USP, Commander Commando Brigade Brigadier KVIL Jayaweera USP, senior officers ofthe commando regimentand family members of the soldiers who were killed and wounded attended the occasion.
