Rana Wickrama Padakkama ( RWP ) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP), gallantry medal awarding ceremony for the remainder of Commando War Heroes was taken place on 22 November during a dignified ceremony at Canelra Banquet Hall, Suriyagama, Kadawatha.
Major General R A Nugera WWV RWP RSP USP ndu , GOC 12 Division and Colonel of the Regiment, CR presided the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Programme was commenced with the recital of the CR Regimental Song and observance of a minute silence in memory of all fallen War Heroes.
Then, the investiture of Rana Wickrama Padakkama ( RWP ) and Rana Sura Padakkama ( RSP ) for Commando officers and Other Ranks has been taken place in recognition of heroism, valour and dedication, that they had immensely proved at the face of enemy. Next- of-kin of fallen War Heroes also received the medals for their loved ones.
By addressing the gathering the Chief Guest appreciated the valour and heroism shown by all Commandos during the Humanitarian operation. Further he appreciated the tremendous contribution made by the Commandos for the victory against terrorism.
Total of 333 War Heroes out of 523 received their medals during the ceremony.
Brig HHASPK Senaratne RSP psc - D Ops, Brig RPDU Rajapaksha RWP RSP - Centre Comdt, Brig DMUG Bandara RWP RSP USP - Comd Cdo Bde and most of the Senior Officers presented at the event.
