The Commando Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch proudly organized its annual Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival 1400hr on 06 April 2025, bringing together families of soldiers and civil staff in a vibrant celebration of tradition and unity. The event was held under the guidance of Mrs Samindie Wickramaratne, the Honourable Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Branch and was meticulously coordinated by the dedicated team of the Branch.
The festival not only highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the nation but also fostered camaraderie and festive spirit within the Commando family.
Adding further prestige to the occasion, Commander of the 53 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment, Major General KHMS Wickramaratne RSP, attended as the special guest and advisor to the Seva Vanitha Branch. His presence underscored the importance of tradition and welfare in the Regiment’s ethos.
As part of the Seva Vanitha Branch’s ongoing welfare initiatives, book packs were distributed among children of school age to support their education and dry ration packs were provided to the civil staff, acknowledging their invaluable service and commitment.
In keeping with the festive spirit, a variety of traditional New Year games and entertainment activities were conducted, drawing enthusiastic participation from all attendees. Winners of the events were presented with prizes, adding joy and excitement to the celebration.
This memorable event stood as a reflection of the Seva Vanitha Branch’s continuous commitment to uplifting the lives of the Commando Regiment’s extended family, an initiative made possible through the leadership and vision of Mrs Samindie Wickramaratne.
