A series of special religious observances, the precursor coinciding with the forthcoming Commando Regiment 42nd anniversary got underway at the most sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of Tooth) on 10th and 11 March 2022 in Kandy, organized by the 2 Commando Regiment where all Commando units flags were symbolically blessed and all War Heroes were remembered, invoking blessings and transferring merits.
The guiding leadership of the Colonel of the Regiment of Commando Regiment, Major General AKGKU Gnanrathne ndc psc, as the Chief Guest for the ceremonies was received on arrival by Brigadier VMN Hettiarachchi RWP RSP, the Commander Commando Brigade, Col BMSKK Dharmawardana RWP RSP USP, Centre Commandant of Commando Regiment , together with Commanding Officer of 2nd Commando Regiment, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.
First segment of the programme started with the Gilanpasa Poojawa and the routine, Chathumadura Poojawa were offered to hundred and eighty monks of the Asgiriya chapter at evening of 10th March. Next day morning religious activities were began with the representative gathering of all ranks attending Kandy ceremonies formed up near the main gate to the Sri Dalada Maligawa with all Commando flags, held in their hands as arrangements were set to conduct the symbolic Flag Blessing ceremony inside the inner chambers at the most sacred shrine. Those flags were taken respectfully in procession to the upper chamber by the representative officers of each unit. Flags were subsequently delivered to the monks in charge of the Thewawa at the upper chamber where chanting of Seth Pirith and conducted of religious observances afterwards invoked blessings on the Commando Regiment’s long journey.
