Major General Buddhika Perera is a proud product of Ananda College, Colombo, where he excelled at sports and athletics. He enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet in General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy under Intake 7 on 14 November 1989. Upon successful completion of military training, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 14 November 1991 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Subsequently, he was posted to the “Gajaba Regiment”, where he began his career as a Platoon Commander in 3rd Battalion the Gajaba Infantry Regiment, and subsequently he took part in numerous military operations, including Humanitarian Operation.
During the Humanitarian Operation, he performed duties as Second-in-Command of 6th Gajaba Regiment, and by considering his exceptional leadership in the battlefield, Major General Buddhika Perera was bestowed with the privilege of commanding 1st Battalion the Gajaba Regiment from 2009 to 2011.
Thereafter, he held a number of Staff appointments in various theaters in the country, and he took over duties as Commander, 574 Infantry Brigade in year 2018. Thereafter, he was appointed as Assistant Military Secretary 3, Military Secretary’s Branch, Army Headquarters, and then as Assistant Military Secretary at the same Branch. Considering his Command, Staff and Instructor capacity, he was appointed as Commandant, Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in 2022, which is the premier Officer Cadet training establishment in the Sri Lanka Army.
After his tenure as Commandant, SLMA, Major General Buddhika Perera was appointed as General Officer Commanding, 21 Infantry Division, and subsequently designated as Military Secretary of the Sri Lanka Army.

Major General Buddhika Perera holds Master’s Degree in Management and Master’s Degree in National Security and War Studies. Further, he was a Staff Officer to United Nations duties at Sudan in 2008.
For his bravery demonstrated in the face of the enemy during Counter Terrorist Operations against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), he was awarded the Rana Wickrama Gallantry Award, and Uththama Seva Padakkama for his unblemished service in Sri Lanka Army. He has also received United Nations, Foreign Service, and almost all military campaigns and service medals.
Major General Buddhika Perera is married to Mrs Uditha Krishanthi Ruwanpathirana and blessed with a daughter.
