CES RENOVATED THE WARD NO. 36 INTO A FULLY FUNCTIONAL NEW INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (ICU) IN TEACHING HOSPITAL - KANDY

In response to a request made by the Director, Kandy Teaching Hospital, Dr Keerthi Rathnayaka from the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, the troops of 17 Corps of Engineer Services within six days converted the Ward No. 36 to a fully functional new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to exclusively treat COVID-19 infected patients, and formally handed it over to the Hospital Director on 10 May 2020 under the patronage of the Commander Security Forces - Central, Major General W D C K Costa RSP USP. The project was supervised by the Director, Engineer Services and the Commanding Officer of 17 Corps of Engineer Services, Major R Punchihewa USP CES. The Commander Security Forces - Central, General Officer Commanding 11 Division, Major General W G H A S Bandara RWP RSP ndu, Officers and the medical Staff of Kandy Teaching Hospital participated.
