11th Engineer Services Regiment

With the end of the Humanitarian Operation, in order to provide the Engineer Services for the Troops deployed in Kilinochchi area and carry out the Development Projects under the “Nothern Spring” development program launched by the Government, as per the instructions of the Army Routine Order ARO 110/2009 dated 24 December 2009, the 11 Engineer Services Regiment was raised with effect from 28 December 2009. The Regiment was initially established at Regimental Headquarters of Corps of Engineer Services at Panagoda and Maj EADK Edirisingha CES assumed duties as the first Officiating Commanding Officer on 04 August 2010.

In order to establish 11 Engineer Services Regiment (Vol) in Kilinochchi, the Commanding Officer and the Troops were temporarily deployed in HQ 15 Engineer Services Regiment (Vol). As the initial step of establishing the Camp, on 10 September 2010 the construction of road network was initiated in the 167-acre forest area allocated for 11 Engineer Services Regiment within the Iranamadu Army Cantonment. Thereafter, construction of the Regimental Headquarters was initiated by the Commanding Officer by cutting the first clod of earth in the groundbreaking ceremony.

Maj MNJ Perera CES was the first Second in Command. Lt (QM) HMB Herath CES and WO I KPNRP Kondasinghe preformed duties as the first Quarter Master and the first Regimental Sergeant Major Respectively.

Presently the Regiment is commanded by Maj WPKM Weerasinghe USP Lsc CES (Offtg). The present Unit Establishment is 34 Officers and 590 Other Ranks.
