Major General K M S Kumara, studied at St. Aloysius College - Galle. He joined General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy on 14 November 1989 as an officer cadet to the Sri Lanka Army. He followed BSc (Defence Studies) in civil Engineering Degree program at General Sir John Kotelawala Defense Academy from 14 November 1989 to 13 November 1991. Thereafter he posted to the Engineer Services Regiment as a Civil Engineer on 14 November 1991.
Major General K M S Kumara served as Garrison Engineer, Officer Commanding, Second in Command in 5 ESR, Commanding Officer 8(V) ESR & 2 ESR and Centre Commandant of Corps of Engineer Services. Presently he is serving as The Colonel Commandant and Director General Engineer Services of Corps of Engineer Services.
Major General KMS Kumara, The Colonel Commandant CES and Director General Engineer Services promoted the rank of Major General with effect from 19 May 2023. On his arrival to CES premises after the promotion, he was warmly welcomed by Colonel YKS Rangika psc ptsc Centre Commandant CES at the main entrance of Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters. After receiving the guard turnout accorded the Colonel Commandant, he placed floral tributes at the Corps of Engineer Services war heroes memorial in honour of fallen war heroes. Thereafter in accordance with military formalities, a colorful guard of honour was held in salute of the Colonel Commandant.
He conducted formal address to all officers and attended with planting a mango tree to mark this occasion. At end, all rank tea was arranged and during the tea he presented plaque and certificate to Spr. Kumara RGD for his act of brave and Captain BHP Samantha and his team for achieving third place at “Gangarama Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone.”
