MAJ GEN IANB PERERA RWP USP ndu psc CONDUCTED BATALLION VISIT TO 5TH ENGINEER SERVICES REGIMENT

The Military Secretary and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services, Major General Buddhika Perera RWP USP ndu psc made his maiden visit to 5 Engineer Services Regiment in Iyakachchi, Jaffna on 11 August 2024. Upon the arrival the visiting Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by Maj AGH Neranjan CES, the Second in Command of 5 ESR and then accorded a guard turnout showcasing the regiment's discipline.

In line with the agenda, Colonel Commandant was accompanied to Commanding Officer’s office for the comprehensive briefing of the unit followed by planting of a Na sapling. Then a group photograph of the officers with Colonel Commandant was taken to commemorate the visit, fostering unity and shared purpose.

The Colonel Commandant then addressed the troops, commending their dedication and professionalism and he further stressed upon the military and personal discipline of the soldiers and its impact on their personal life, Corps of Engineer Services and the whole Army. Finally, he advised on correct use of social media, present financial crisis, situational awareness and remedial actions to the gathering.

The Colonel Commandant inspected the camp premises, paying particular attention to the welfare facilities available to the soldiers and gave guidance for progressive improvements. He also took this as an opportunity to interact with officers, other ranks, and civil staff of the 5 ESR. Then joined the tea arranged by the unit which facilitated and informal interaction with all ranks of the unit.

Before his departure, he penned his compliments in the visitors' book, a tradition solidifying his visit and the regiment's history. This significant event highlighted the regiment's professionalism, dedication, and vital role in the Sri Lankan military, further strengthening the bonds within the unit.

Brigadier KL Munasinghe USP, the Centre Commandant of the CES, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks joined the occasion.
