HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT DECLARES OPEN THE 7 STORIED DR THILAK ABEYSEKARA KIDNEY TREATMENT & CONCESSIONARY CENTRE CONSTRUCTED BY THE 17TH ENGINEER SERVICES REGIMENT on 25 February 2019.

The 7 Stored Dr Thilak Abeysekara Kidney Treatment & Concessionary Centre constructed by the 17th Engineer Services Regiment in Kandy Teaching Hospital premises was declared open by His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena on 25 February 2019 in the presence of a large gathering of Buddhist Monks, Clergy, Ministers, Secretaries, Chief Ministers, State Officials, Chief of Defence Staff, Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders and a large crowd of invitees and Kidney Patients, taking treatment from the Kandy Teaching Hospital.

The State-of-the-art Kidney Treatment Centre construction project worth Rs 628 million was commenced on 1 October 2016 by the 17th Engineer Services Regiment under the guidance of Presidential Task Force for Chronic Kidney Disease. During the ceremony. During the ceremony , His Excellency the President awarded special Mementoes of Recognition to former Commanding Officer Lt Col M N J Perera CES, Commanding Officer Y K S Rangika psc CES , Captain W A L Chaminda CES, Captain M NC Attanayake CES, Lieutenant Suraweera and Warrant Officer II Ariyarathne K G R USP who commanded and supervised the Project. Naval troops also assisted the Project by constructing the Reverse Osmosis Plant in the unit for purification of water.
