CORPS OF ENGINEER SERVICES CELEBRATES SINHALA AND TAMIL NEW YEAR FESTIVAL 2025

The Corps of Engineer Services (CES) held its Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival on 27th April 2025 at the 4(V) Engineer Services Regiment, Panadura, bringing together Officers, Other Ranks, and their families for a day of celebration, tradition, and unity.

The event was organized by Major INM Perera, the Commanding Officer of 4(V) Engineer Services Regiment, together with the Staff Officers of Regimental Headquarters under the guidance of Brigadier NWPSM Perera, the Centre Commandant of CES, and with the supervision of Major General KAN Rasika Kumara ndc psc, the Colonel Commandant of CES. Their leadership and efforts ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the festival, making it a memorable occasion for all.

The event commenced with much excitement in a bicycle race, followed by a marathon that energized the morning. The day was packed with a wide range of traditional Aurudu games, reviving the rich cultural heritage associated with the New Year season.Among them, Climbing the Greasy Pole, Pillow Fighting, Breaking Pots, Tug of War, Sack Race, Eating Buns Competition, and the New Year Prince and Princess Pageant stood out as highlights. These traditional games brought lively competition and cheerful laughter, engaging participants of all ages in a spirit of camaraderie and festive joy.

The festival was honored by the presence of Mrs. Anupama Rathnayaka, President of the Seva Vanitha Branch of Corps of Engineer Services, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, whose participation added warmth and encouragement to the event.

Brigadier YKS Rangika psc ptsc, Director Engineer Services, Brigadier KL Munasinghe USP, the Additional Director of Project Management Unit of DHQC Project, NWPSM Perera the Centre Commandant of CES, Brigadier MNJ Perera Brigadier Admin & Quartering of Security Force Headquarters (West), and Senior Members of CES Seva Vanitha Branch took part in the festival.

This New Year celebration not only served as a festive gathering but also strengthened the bonds among CES personnel and their families. It reflected the commitment of the Corps to fostering unity, cultural appreciation, and well-being within its ranks.
