The Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General N U M M W Senanayake RWP RSP VSV USP USACGSC marked his maiden visit to the Regimental Centre, Corps of Engineer Services on 07 June 2019 and he was warmly welcomed by the Colonel Commandant Corps of Engineer Services, Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc.
In accordance with the military traditions, the Commander of the Army was accorded a Guard Turnout at the entrance of the Corps of Engineer Services. Thereafter the Commander of the Army offered floral tributes at the CES War Heroes Monument and commemorated the fallen war heroes of the Corps of Engineer Services. Subsequently a formal Guard of Honour was accorded to the visiting Commander by the troops of Corps of Engineer Services.
Upon the invitation of the Colonel Commandant CES, the Commander of the Army ceremonially declared open the newly constructed modern Two Storied Kitchen Complex a and the Reconstructed Billiards and Snooker Complex at the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Centre. During refreshments at the Officers’ Mess , the Commander had a cordial chat with the Officers present and shared few thoughts with them.
Thereafter , the Commander of the Army addressed the All Ranks at the RHQ CES Other Ranks’ Mess and made a cash donation to the CES and presented the cheque to the CES Colonel Commandant at the same location. Afterwards, the Colonel Commandant CES , showing the gratitude of all members of the Corps of Engineer Services to the Commander for undertaking the visit presented a memento to the Commander of the Army.
As the last event of the day's itinerary , the Commander made a visit at the Engineer Services Central Workshop at Habarakada , Panagoda and inspected the services provided by the Workshop including repairing of generators, repairing of water pumps, welding yard , LED Flash Lights Production section , Solar Power Systems assembling section and water purification RO Plants (Reverse Osmosis Plants) assembling section.
The Director Engineer Services Brigadier R Ganegoda psc, the Centre Commandant CES Colonel K M S Kumara, Deputy Centre Commandant CES Colonel S N Kithulgoda USP, The Director Projects and Constructions Civil Security Department Colonel G D H K Wijenayake , The Colonel Engineer Services Col E A D K Edirisinghe , large number of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in this event.
