As per the instructions of Army Routine Order ARO 26/2006, the 8 (V) Engineer Services Regiment was raised with effect from 24 April 2006 in order to carry out Mega Construction Projects. The first team of Troops commanded by Maj K Dissanayaka SLE who was appointed as the first Commanding Officer of the 8(V) Engineer Services Regiment reported to the HQ 4(V) Engineer Services Regiment at Nalluruwa, Panadura and established the Regimental Headquarters in a separate area. Capt AMWP Abeysekara SLSR was appointed as the first Adjutant and Lt (QM) RG Premasiri SLLI was appointed as the first Quarter Master Officer. WO I RMTB Rathnayaka was appointed as the first Regimental Sergeant Major.
On 08 Oct 2007, the 8 (V) Engineer Services Regiment was relocated at Matha Road, Manning Town, Colombo 8, adjoining the Army Married Quarters Complex in order to carry out the Army Hospital Construction Project.
After successfully comleting the construction of 10 Storied Army Hospital Building, the Regiment was relocated at Hokandara, in order to carryout constructions at Defence Headquarters Complex construction project at Akuregoda, Battaramulla.
Presently the Regiment is commanded by Lt Col MR Vidyarathne CES.
