On 01 July 2025, the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) officially assumed the prestigious President’s Ceremonial Guard duty from the Sri Lanka Air Force for the second half of the year 2025. The formal handover took place at the President’s House - Colombo with a brief but dignified ceremony. Further, the SLCMP also took over the responsibility of hoisting the National Flag at Galle Face Green, effective from the same date.
The President’s Ceremonial Guard is a unique and honourable duty entrusted to the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, presently performed by the 5th Battalion, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, following its consecutive performances alongside the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force annually.
The ceremonial proceedings were conducted under the direct supervision of the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Major General U L J S Perera RSP USP nps psc, and the Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army, Brigadier A M R Abeysinghe ndc. The Commanding Officer of 5 SLCMP, Lieutenant Colonel B G S M Bogahawela USP psc, senior officers of the SLCMP, and senior officers of the Sri Lanka Air Force were present at the occasion.
