SRI LANKA CORPS OF MILITARY POLICE SALUTES OUTGOING COLONEL COMMANDANT WITH FULL MILITARY HONOURS

The Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) ceremonially bade farewell to its outgoing Colonel Commandant, Major General U L J S Perera RSP USP nps psc, with a series of formal processions and events in recognition of his distinguished service.

The farewell programme began on 30 June 2025, when the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess at RHQ SLCMP hosted a customary farewell function where Senior Non-Commissioned Officers gathered to convey their appreciation and best wishes to the retiring Colonel Commandant.

The main farewell ceremonies were held on 03 July 2025 at the Regimental Centre, SLCMP, Polhengoda. On arrival, Major General U L J S Perera RSP USP nps psc was honoured with a Guard Turnout, followed by an impressive Guard of Honour at the RHQ parade square. Addressing the troops, he extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Commander of the Army, Principal Staff Officers, former Colonel Commandants, former Provost Marshals, and all officers and other ranks of the SLCMP for their steadfast support during his tenure.

That evening, a Farewell Mess Night was hosted at the Officers’ Mess in honour of Major General U L J S Perera RSP USP nps psc and his wife, Mrs. Iresha Perera who held the appointment of President of the SLCMP Seva Vanitha Branch. During the event, Major General R D Sallay ndc, Commander, Logistics Command, SFHQ (Central), delivered a touching speech, paying tribute to Colonel Commandant’s exemplary leadership and invaluable contributions to the Corps.

Major General U L J S Perera RSP USP nps psc began his military career on 03 November 1990 as an Officer Cadet. Commissioned into the Gemunu Watch as a Second Lieutenant, he went on to serve the Army for more than three decades, holding key command, staff and instructor appointments. He was appointed as Colonel Commandant of the SLCMP on 10 January 2025 and is set to retire on 05 July 2025.

The farewell events were attended by the Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army, Brigadier A M R Abeysinghe ndc; the Centre Commandant of the SLCMP, Brigadier M M M P Mahesh Kumara; BAQ 1 Corps, Brigadier R M A K S Rajanayaka; BAQ SFHQ (W), Brigadier J S Munasinghe; Project Officer, SFHQ (Central), Brigadier D D D Serasinghe USP; council members; senior officers; officers; and members of the SLCMP Seva Vanitha Branch.
