Major General B G S Fernando USP Hdmc psc ceremonially assumed duties as the 14th Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) on 11 July 2025, during a solemn ceremony held at the Regimental Headquarters in Polhengoda.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, followed by a series of customary events including invoking religious blessings, a group photograph, the planting of a commemorative sapling, a formal address to the troops, and All-Ranks Tea, fostering unity and camaraderie among all members of the Corps. The ceremony concluded with a visit to key facilities within the camp premises.
The event was graced by several distinguished senior officers, including Commander, Logistics Command SFHQ (Central) Major General R D Sally ndc ; Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army Major General A M R Abeysinghe ndc ; Centre Commandant, SLCMP Brigadier M M M P Mahesh Kumara; BAQ, 1 Corps Brigadier R M A K S Rajanayaka ; BAQ, SFHQ (W) Brigadier J S Munasinghe; Project Officer and SFHQ (Central) Brigadier D D D Serasinghe USP. Also in attendance were council members, senior officers, officers, Regimental – RSM and Other Ranks of the SLCMP.
