The 5th Regiment of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) officially commenced operations at its newly established camp premises in Bathalawatta, Habarakada, Homagama, on 2 July 2025.
The brief but dignified ceremony was graced by the Military Secretary of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the SLCMP, Major General U L J S Perera RSP USP nps psc, who has been the driving force behind the acquisition of the new land plot and the realization of this long-standing goal.
Proceedings began with a guard turnout in honour of the Colonel Commandant. Amid applause, he unveiled the name board and official opening plaque of the 5th Regiment SLCMP, marking the formal inauguration of the camp followed by invoking religious blessings upon the regiment and its members.
Addressing the gathering, Colonel Commandant highlighted the tremendous efforts demanded to acquire the land and establish the camp where he elaborated the challenges faced along the way and commended the determination and teamwork that made the vision a reality. Further, he expressed deep gratitude to all ranks for their tireless contributions and offered special thanks to the Commander of the Army for his guidance and pivotal support in securing the land and facilitating the successful relocation. Moreover, the Colonel Commandant conducted a detailed inspection of the camp’s new facilities.
Among the distinguished attendees were Major General R D Sallay ndc, Commander, Logistics Command, Security Force Headquarters (Central); Brigadier A M R Abeysinghe ndc, Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army; Brigadier M M M P Mahesh Kumara, Centre Commandant of the SLCMP; Brigadier D D D Serasinghe USP, Project Officer, Security Force Headquarters (Central); council members; senior officers; officers; and other ranks of the SLCMP.
