MAJOR GENERAL K H M S WICKRAMARATNE RSP ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE 17TH COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT COMMANDO REGIMENT

Major General K H M S Wickramaratne RSP, the General Officer Commanding of the 53 Infantry Division, officially assumed duties as the 17th Colonel of the Regiment of the Commando Regiment at the Regimental Headquarters in Ganemulla on 19 October 2024. A ceremonial event, observing religious traditions and military customs, was held at the Regimental Centre on 23 October 2024. Upon arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant of the Commando Regiment and was accorded a Guard Turnout.

A brief religious ceremony was held at the Colonel of the Regiment’s office to invoke blessings for his new appointment. As part of the ceremony, he planted a sapling on the camp premises, symbolising his assumption of duties. Following the formalities, Major General K H M S Wickramaratne RSP addressed all ranks, outlining his goals, objectives, and plans for strengthening the Regiment’s esprit de corps, as well as enhancing its operational, training, and administrative functions. He also highlighted the significance of the professional development of both officers and other ranks. The day's proceedings concluded with an all-ranks tea served at the swimming pool site.

The ceremony was attended by senior officers, officers, and other ranks of the Commando Regiment, who participated in the proceedings.
