The Commando Regiment organized a customary felicitation ceremony for the newly promoted Major General HDLS Perera RWP RSP ndc and Major General TCMGST Cooray RWP RSP USP ndc psc on 06 February 2025 at the Commando Regimental Centre premises to offer them the traditional salute as Commandos.
Upon arrival, Major General Lalith Perera was welcomed by Brigadier MR Razick RSP ndu the Centre Commandant of the Commando Regimental Centre at the entrance of the Regimental Headquarters. He was accorded a ceremonial Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour. Similarly, Major General TCMGST Cooray RWP RSP USP ndc psc received the Guard Turnout and Guard of Honour salute at the Regimental Parade Square.
Following these formalities, both Senior Officers paid tribute to the fallen Commandos by offering floral wreaths at the Commando War Memorial accompanied by the Centre Commandant. Both senior officers took part in a group photograph with all officers in front of the Commando Regiment Officers' Mess.
Subsequently, Major General HDLS Perera RWP RSP ndc and Major General TCMGST Cooray RWP RSP USP ndc psc addressed all Commandos at the Maroon Legacy respectively. In their brief speeches, they reflected on their military careers spanning over three decades, expressing gratitude to Commando veterans, Senior Officers, Officers, and Non-Commissioned Officers who contributed to their successful journeys. They further emphasized the importance of building a strong reputation as both an officer and a Commando for a fulfilling military career, upholding the Commando bond, and working as a unified team. As the final segment of the event, an All Ranks tea party was arranged at the swimming pool site.
The ceremony was graced by Brigadier MR Razick RSP ndu, the Centre Commandant of the Commando Regimental Centre, Brigadier KVIL Jayaweera USP, the Commander of the Commando Brigade, several council members, senior officers, officers, and non-commissioned officers making it a truly memorable occasion.
