A customary felicitation ceremony was held at the Commando Regimental Centre, Ganemulla on 23 December 2025 to honour the newly promoted Major General S P Wickramasekera RWP RSP USP psc. The event was organized in keeping with the traditions of the Commando Regiment to extend a salute to its distinguished senior officer.
On arrival, Major General S P Wickramasekera RWP RSP USP psc was received by Brigadier R C Karunarathna RWP, Centre Commandant of the Commando Regimental Centre and accorded a Guard Turnout followed by a Guard of Honour at the Regimental Headquarters.
Following these formalities, Senior Officer paid tribute to the fallen Commando war heroes by laying floral wreaths at the Commando War Memorial. Thereafter, a group photograph with Officers was taken in front of the Officers’ Mess.
Addressing All Ranks at the Maroon Legacy, the Senior Officer recalled his illustrious military career spanning over three decades. He expressed profound gratitude to Commando Veterans, Senior Officers, Officers, Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, and Non-Commissioned Officers who contributed to their professional growth in the Sri Lanka Army. He further underscored the significance of maintaining the reputation of the Commando as a professional soldier, fostering regimental esprit de corps and working as a cohesive team. An All-Ranks tea party was arranged at the corporal's club.
With the presence of the Centre Commandant Commando Regimental Centre Brigadier R C Karunaratna RWP, Commander Commando Brigade, Brigadier U S Pilapitiya RSP USP psc, together with Several Council Members and All Ranks of the Commando Regiment rendered the occasion a memorable and dignified tribute to the newly promoted Major General.
