COMMANDO REGIMENT SEVA VANITHA BRANCH CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY- 2025

The Seva Vanitha Branch of the Commando Regiment organized a Women’s Empowerment Program, which was successfully held at 1500 hr on 31st March 2025. The event, aligned with global celebrations of women’s achievements, took place under the patronage of Mrs Samindie Wickramaratne, the Honourable Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Branch and was coordinated by the dedicated team of the Branch. The occasion was further honoured by the presence of the advisor to the Branch, Commander of the 53 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment, Major General KHMS Wikramaratne RSP.

The program featured an enlightening session conducted by Professor Hemamali Gunathilaka, a distinguished academic and expert in women’s empowerment and she shared her extensive knowledge on fostering self-confidence, leadership skills and emotional intelligence, while encouraging participants to navigate the multifaceted roles they play in their personal, professional and social lives.

The program, held at the Regimental Centre of the Commando Regiment, attracted a large turnout of female spouses of Officers and Other ranks, as well as spouses of the Civil Staff. The event featured a cake-cutting ceremony to celebrate the occasion, followed by refreshments. Adding a vibrant touch to the event, the Commando Regiment cultural dancing team performed a series of colorful and engaging dance items. An interactive session was also conducted, aiming to inspire and empower the participants by equipping them with tools to overcome challenges, pursue their aspirations and enhance their overall well-being.

Further, Mrs Samindie Wickramaratne highlighted the importance of celebrating women’s achievements and contributions to society, emphasizing the Seva Vanitha Branch's unwavering commitment to empowering women in the military community. She expressed her gratitude to Professor Gunathilaka for her invaluable insights and efforts toward making the event a success.

This Women’s Empowerment Program serves as a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Seva Vanitha Branch to support the holistic development and empowerment of women within the Commando Regiment family, helping them grow in confidence, leadership, and self-sufficiency.
