On 24th September 2025, Police Sub Inspector Asanka Premalal from the Crime Branch of the Athurugiriya Police delivered an informative lecture on internet-based financial crimes at the 7(V) Engineer Services Regiment Lecture Hall. The objective of the session was to raise awareness among soldiers about various cyber-related offenses, with the aim of protecting them from falling victim to such activities and preventing their potential involvement in these illegal practices.
During the session, PSI Premalal also addressed the growing issue of online gambling, elaborating on its various forms such as online casino games, sports betting, and virtual lotteries. He explained the negative consequences associated with these activities, including financial loss, mental health issues, family breakdowns, and the potential for being drawn into criminal networks. The lecture emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and informed in order to maintain personal integrity, financial security, and professional discipline.
