The Director Engineer Services (DES) of Directorate of Engineer Services Brigadier YKS Rangikapscptscconducted an official visitto 17 Engineer Services Regiment, Diyathalawa on Saturday, 28 December 2024. This visit aimed to foster closer interactions with the personnel of the unit and gain an understanding of their operations and well-being.
Upon the arrival DES was accorded with a drive pass salute showcasing regimental discipline and warmly received by the Commanding Officer of the regiment, Lieutenant Colonel EADP EdirisingheLsc together with his officers.
Following this, visiting Senior Officers posed for a group photograph with the officers of the regiment, symbolizing camaraderie and unity. In keeping with the spirit of the visit, he then planted a mango sapling as a lasting token of his visit, which will serve as a reminder of his time with the regiment.
Addressing the troops, DES expressed his appreciation for their hard work, dedication, and their commitment within the Sri Lanka Army. His words resonated with the personnel, boosting their morale and reinforcing their role to the mission of the Corps of Engineer Services.
Thereafter, visitors joined for a tea with personnel of the unit, during which he engaged in an interactive session. The informal setting allowed for a productive exchange of ideas and provided an opportunity for the personnel to raise concerns and discuss various matters with the DES.
The visit also included a briefing by the Commanding Officer, provided with an overview of the unit’s ongoing projects, challenges, future activities. The interaction with the officers was marked by insightful discussions, further enhancing the mutual understanding between the officers and the Senior Officers.
Following the briefing, visiting officers were accompanied for a lunch at the Officer’s Mess, where he spent more time with the officers. Before his departure, Brigadier Rangika signed the Visitors’ Book, leaving a message of encouragement and appreciation for the regiment’s contributions to the broader mission of the Directorate.
The visit was attended by Colonel NN Abeysekara, Colonel Engineer Services (Design and Planning) of the Directorate of Engineer Services, visiting staff officers of Dte of ES, and all the officers and Other Ranks of 17 ESR.
This visit further strengthened the bond between the Directorate of Engineer Services and the 17 Engineer Services Regiment, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, communication, and leadership within the Sri Lanka Army.
