The Regimental Headquarters of the Corps of Engineer Services organized a timely and vital guest lecture on drug prevention on December 26, 2024.This lecture was part of a series of awareness programs conducted across the Engineer Services Regiments to educate soldiers and officers about the dangers of drug abuse and to promote a drug-free lifestyle within the military which was initiate as per the concept of Maj Gen KAN Rasika Kumara ndc psc the Colonel Commandant, CES and with the supervision of Brig NWPSM Perera, the Centre Commandant, CES reflecting the commitment of the leadership to safeguard the well-being of their personnel.
The lecture was led by Mrs. Dulshani Tharaka Mahanama, the Preventive Coordinator for the Colombo District at the Preventive Education and Training Unit of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB). As an expert in the field of drug prevention, Mrs. Mahanama shared valuable insights into the challenges of combating drug abuse in Sri Lanka.
The primary objective of this lecture was to raise awareness among the soldiers and officers of the Corps about the serious health risks associated with drug consumption and related activities. It also aimed to equip them with the knowledge to prevent drug use and identify early signs of addiction, which could undermine their health, performance, and discipline.
Approximately 300 participants from the Corps of Engineer Services attended the lecture in person with additional soldiers and officers joining virtually via the Zoom platform. This hybrid approach ensured that the message reached as many individuals as possible, even beyond the physical confines of the RHQ.
Brigadier NWPSM Perera, the Centre Commandant of CES along with other Staff Officers of Regimental Headquarters joined the event.
