HONOURING 76 YEARS OF ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE: CORPS OF ENGINEER SERVICES

The 76th Anniversary of the Corps of Engineer Services (CES) was commemorated in a ceremonial and dignified manner at the CES Regimental Headquarters on 10th January 2026. The momentous occasion was graced by Major General KAN Rasika Kumara ndc psc the Commander of the Security Force (Jaffna), and Colonel Commandant of the CES.

The ceremony commenced with a dignified welcome extended to the Colonel Commandant by Brigadier MSD Perera USP ptsc, the Centre Commandant of CES. The event was formally marked by a Guard Turnout, a time-honoured military tradition that set a respectful and ceremonial tone. In keeping with tradition, a floral tribute was offered in remembrance of the fallen war heroes who served the Corps with honour and devotion. This solemn gesture reflected the Corps’ profound respect and heartfelt gratitude towards those who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation.

Following the tribute, the Colonel Commandant reviewed an impressive parade that clearly demonstrated the discipline, professionalism, and operational readiness of the CES troops. The parade stood as a powerful testament to the Corps’ enduring standards of excellence and left a lasting impression on all in attendance. The presence of former Colonels Commandant and Centre Commandants added great significance and dignity to the parade, further enriching the occasion.

After the parade, the Colonel Commandant, accompanied by senior officers and officers, paid respects at the War Heroes’ Monument, symbolising unity, remembrance, and pride in the Corps’ legacy. The formal proceedings then moved to the Officers’ Mess, Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess, and All Ranks’ Mess. One of the most memorable moments of the celebration was the ceremonial cutting of the anniversary cake, symbolising the Corps’ enduring legacy, unity, and continued service to the nation.

In his address to the officers, the Colonel Commandant expressed his sincere appreciation for the dedication and professionalism displayed by all members of the Corps across Sri Lanka and in overseas deployments. He highlighted the vital role played by CES personnel in national defence, infrastructure development, and nation-building efforts. Later, addressing all ranks, he reflected on the Corps’ proud achievements and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to excellence and selfless service.

The evening was further honoured by the presence of Brigadier YKS Rangika psc, the Director of Engineer Services; Brigadier NWSMP Perera, the Director of the Directorate of Management & Maintenance; and Brigadier MNJ Perera, Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Security Force Headquarters – West, along with senior officers, officers, and other ranks. Civilians also joined the celebrations, contributing to a warm and inclusive atmosphere.

The 76th Anniversary celebrations served as a fitting tribute to the proud history of the Corps of Engineer Services and a strong reminder of its continuing contribution to the Sri Lanka Army and the nation.
