In accordance with a concept by the Colonel Commandant and Director Engineer Services Brigadier N W P S M Perera , a comprehensive programme has been initiated with the objective of awarding National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) certificates to tradesmen of the Corps of Engineer Services in recognition of their respective professional competencies. This programme is being implemented under the close supervision of the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters in collaboration with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) and the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA). Through the Skill Upgrade and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathways, vocational training courses, together with theoretical and practical assessments, are being conducted in phases to facilitate the attainment of NVQ qualifications.
Accordingly, a ceremonial programme for the presentation of NVQ Level 3 and Level 4 certificates was successfully conducted on 02 June 2026 at the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters. The event represented approximately 1,000 tradesmen who had successfully completed the prescribed vocational courses and theoretical and practical assessments under their respective trades and thereby qualified for the award of NVQ certificates.
The ceremony was held at the invitation of the Centre Commandant, Brigadier M. S. D. Perera USP ptsc, and was graced by the presence of the Colonel Commandant and Director of Engineer Services, Brigadier N. W. P. S. M. Perera, who presided over the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was further honoured by the participation including the Chairman, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), Professor Lalith Chandralal and Director General, National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), Dr. W. M. S. Wijesinghe and other representatives from the NAITA and PUCSL.
