CULTIVATION AND AGRONOMY PROJECT AT VIR REGIMENTAL CENTRE BEARS FRUIT

Due to the prevailing economic calamity in the country, with the aim of successfully facing any possible future food crisis, harmonized with the cultivation perception of the Commander of the Army, under the directions and guidance of Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army Headquarters and Colonel of the Regiment Major General Nishantha Manage, and direct supervision of Regimental Centre Commandant Brigadier Prabath Kodithuwakku, Cultivation and Agronomy Projectcommenced in the VIR Boyagane camp covering an area of almost 12 acres.It is planned to cultivate numerous crops such as Chili, Green Pepper, Brinjal, Lady’s Fingers, Beans, Turkey Berry, Pumpkins, Cantaloupe, Cucumber,Ridged Gourd, Snake Gourd, Potato, Winged Beans, Manyok, Drumstick, June Plums, Kathurumurunga, Lime, Turmeric, Ginger, etc. Cultivation is planned according to short, medium, and long term crops.

NEW STAFF OFFICER I (ADMINISTRATION) ASSUMES DUTIES

Lieutenant Colonel B K S L Rodrigo RSP assumed office as the 12th Staff Officer I (Administration) of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on10 June 2022 during a brief ceremony at the VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, Kurunegala.
Lieutenant Colonel Lakpriya Rodrigo was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 23 October 1995and followed the basic military training as an Officer Cadet with Intake 46B. After a successful training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 19 December 1998and posted to the 5th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

REGIMENTAL CENTRE CONDUCTS AN AWARENESS LECTURE ON MILITARY WEDDING PROCEDURES

The Regimental Centre of The Vijayabahu Infantry Regimentorganized an awareness lecture onMilitary Wedding Procedures and Traditions to the bachelor officers of VIRon 06 June 2022 at regimental centre Officers’ Mess premises. The concept of the programme was to increase the awareness among the VIR officers regarding different customs and traditions connected with military weddings. The lecture was conducted by Regimental Adjutant MajHarindu Silva and Staff Officer II (Administration) Major MadhawaThanthri.

TROOPS OF VIR UNDER GO 3 DAYS WORKSHOP ON INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS AT RHQ VIR

In accordance with the directions of Directorate of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and supervision and guidance of the Centre Commandant, Regimental Centre Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, a Three Day Workshop on International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights was successfully conducted for troops of Regimental Centre VIR from 06 June 2022 to 08 June 2022 at the Regimental Centre while adhering all the health precautions and guidelines stipulated to prevent COVID-19 outbreak. DONATION PROGRAMME AND MEDICAL CLINIC CONDUCTED FOR NEEDY PREGNANT MOTHERS IN CHAVAKACHCHERI BY TROOPS OF 7 VIR

With the coordination of Commanding Officer of 7th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Maj I K G S N A Bandara RWP RSP USP, troops conducted a clinic and launched a donation programme to distribute essential items for pregnant mothers in Chavakachcheri area on 06 June 2022 at the Cultural Hall - Thennamarachchi.The clinic was held under the supervising of Dr. S Sudokumar of the office of MOH Chavakachcheri.

NEW STAFF OFFICER I (VETERAN AFFAIRS) ASSUMES DUTIES

Lieutenant Colonel D K D Vithanage RSPassumed office as the 3rd Staff Officer I (Veteran Affairs) of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 06 June 2022 during a brief ceremony at the VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, Kurunegala.
Lieutenant Colonel Darshana Vithanage was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 04 July 1998 and followed the basic military training as a Cadet Officer with Intake 48. After a successful training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 17 June 2000and posted to the 6th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

FAREWELL DINNER TO OUTGOING STAFF OFFICERS COLONEL MERVIN FERNANDO AND LIEUTENANT COLONEL SARATH BANDARA

A farewell dinner was hosted to felicitate outgoing Staff Officer I (Administration), Colonel H W M A C Fernando RSP and Staff Officer I (Veteran Affairs) Lieutenant Colonel S M Sarath Bandara RSP of VIR Regimental Centre on 06 June 2022. It was held at Officers’ Mess premises with the participation of all Staff Officers of Regimental Centre. The outgoing senior officers were warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant BrigadierPrabath Kodithuwakku together with all other Staff Officerson their arrival.

VIJAYABAHU INFANTRY REGIMENT PARTICIPATES AT THE QUEEN’S PLATINUM JUBILEE PAGEANT

At the invitation of the Government of the United Kingdom, a contingent of Sri Lanka’s Tri Forces including a Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment officer participated at the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee pageant held on 05 June 2022.
Queen Elizabeth II became the first British Queen to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service in year 2022. The parade was organised as a part of a series of celebrations that took place from 02 – 05 June in honour of the Queen. It comprised many events including a military display and cultural performances.

COMMANDING OFFICERS’ ACCOMMODATION PROJECT PROGRESS REVIEWED

Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army Headquarters and Colonel of the Regiment Major General S U M N Manage WWV RWP RSP pscmade a field visit in the Regimental Centre in order to inspect the progress of the ongoing construction work of the Commanding Officers’ accommodation project at Rear Headquarters on 05 June 2022.
VIR troops in order to uplift the standards and facilities provided to Commanding Officers of VIR battalions with the assistance of the Regimental Centre are engaged in the accommodation construction project.
