At the end of the Eelam war this battalion was moved out from 58 DIV and stationed in Trincomalee area by joining the 221 Battalion under 22 DIV on 23.05.2009. later on, the battalion withdrawn from Brigade 222 on 11.04.2010 and functioned under Brigade 221,Leiutenant Colonel KKGP Kodituwakku completed his term as Commanding Officer, temporarily replaced by Major BYC Fernando, O/63252,who functioned as second in commanding Officer.

Major SJ Kariyakarawana O/62313 was appointed as new Commanding Officer effective from 20.05.2010 and the battalian Headquarters 2nd special forces headquarters at Money Bridge Camp. The rifle group of the battalion was in Kantalai area and in between camp was at Clapenberg and Thiriyaya areas where they engaged in various active duties.

No permanent location was not in the long run of contributing for the LTTE war for full 30 years and moved from one place to another. As the need of a permanent location is of high priority at the end of the war and peace dawns, construction work is under progress once the acquisition of an area of 10 acres in Thiriyaya for the establishment of a permanent camp with the total dedication and mediation by incumbent commanding Officer and other senior officers such as 22 DIV commander and brigade commander’s supervision.

The existing camp as Monkey bridge was withdrawn from the location on 02.12.2010 and brought to Thiriyaya area where the construction works were under way. With the use of pre-fabricated building constructed with the co-ordination of Engineer service regiment in a short period of time established the headquarters there and commenced duties. It is necessary to note that necessary plans and relevant estimates were prepared and handed over to the Head quarters for further action. As battalion headquarters situated at the end of beach village in a fine location and many officers including Colonel of the Regiment, Commander of the security forces, commander of the army ,chief of defence, secratory of defence etc were paid official visits up to this and proud to state that it has brought the respect of may senior officers for the beauty it has been completed.

On 27 February 2014 handed over the duty as commanding officer by Lt Col SJ Kariyakarawana RSP to maj BYC Fernando RWP. The battalion that equipped with a group of war heroes who have made a special sacrifice to bring the peace in the country and engaged in day to day duties mutually interconnected with civilians of Kuchchuvel and Nilaveli areas towards to the development and peace of the country and extends a superb contribution towards the building of trust in between the army and civilians of the area.

Major DKD Vithanage RSP assumed duties as the acting Commanding Officer of 6th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 04 April 2020 at the Battalion Headquarters in Thiriyaya, Trincomalee. This Battalion deployed in Boyagane Kurunegala on 10 December 2022 finally, Major Harshana Wickramanayake assumed duties as the 18th Commanding Officer of the 6th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on 31 May 2022 at the 6 VIR Headquarters in the same location.
