9th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment

On 2nd January 2006 Lieutenant Colonel BAL Ratnayake took over the Command of the Battalion.

On 19th December 2007 placed under command to 51 Division, the Battalion took over security duties of the Town Sector.

On 23rd January 2008, 2 companies of the Battalion were deployed for duties at the Thelippalai Road Block while the other 2 companies were deployed on security duties at the Palali High Security Zone.

On 18th March 2008, Lieutenant Colonel KGJ Ariyaratna was appointed as the Commanding Officer.

On 6th June 2008 the Battalion took over duties of the Muhamalai FDL which later, was once again handed over to the 1 SLLI on 3rd October 2008 after which the Battalion was moved to Ariyalaiand placed under command to the 512 Brigade.

On 16th November 2008 the Battalion was airlifted from Kayts to Vavuniya and moved on to Welioya to be placed under command to the 59 Division.

On 19th November 2008 the Battalion placed under command to the 593 Brigade deployed in Komalamunai.

On 17th December 2008 the Battalion as part of the 'Humanitarian Operation' attacked many enemy positions and took control of the A 34 road thus, blocking terrorists supply route.

Continuing as part of the operation the Battalion captured the 2.5 km long airfield constructed and used by the LTTE.

On 31st January 2009 the Battalion detached from the 592 Brigade and was placed under command to the 593 Brigade and deployed to operate north of the Nadikadal Lagoon. Thereafter on 9th February 2009 the Battalion was placed under command to the 533 Brigade of the 53 Division and deployed to operate in Puthukudirippu. Later, on 4th March 2009 the Battalion was once again placed under command to the 593 Brigade and was deployed in Nayaru.

Major MGW Wimalasena took over the command of the Battalion on 18th September 2009.
