Search & Rescue Course

a. Overview. At the request of non-military authorities, this Centre formulated different model of training programs to train nominees forward by them. The first request favorably considered by the Comd of the Army and authorized to accommodate Outward Bounded Training Programs under the supervision of Centre for Disaster Response Training. The course curriculum mainly focuson the Search & Rescue procedures and Medical First Responders (MFR).

b. Aim. To train the outward bound nominees by the Disaster Response Centre trainers in order to fulfill training requirements to act as first responders in disaster and emergency situations in the country as an assistance provided by Sri Lanka Army.

c. Level of Participants. Nominees forward by non-military authorities preferably those who assign to undertake first responders’ level.

d. Objectives. After undergoing this training course, the participants should be able to:

(1) Understand from a SAR member’s perspective Role of the SAR Team Member’s in SAR operations.

(2) Search and rescue operations in broadly, the rescue missions including rope rescues, urban rescues, Jungle Rescuer& water/flood rescues.

(3) Fire rescue, medical emergency operations and to apply skill effectively in handling the situations.

(4) Acquire knowledge over the handling and use of various tools and equipment of search and rescue missions and other disaster response operations.
