Life Saving Training Course

a. Overview. A national policy to prevent drowning and tragic water-related accidents has been formulated and the SL Army is in the process of establishing a Lifesaving Training School at Ranaviru Apparels Yakkala with the objectives of conducting awareness programmes, training sessions, forming lifesaving teams and maintaining data base to be used in future eventualities. The course curriculum is prepared with the guidance of the Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka (SLLS), which is the national body for Life Saving and Water Safety in Sri Lanka accepted by the International Life Saving Federation (ILSF).

b. Aim. To train SL Army personnel in water rescue and lifesaving skills, affording them the opportunity to obtain internationally recognized lifesaver grading.

c. Objectives. The course is designed to achieve the following objectives;

(1) To enhance individual proficiency and self-confidence of trainees in Long and Short Distance Swimming Techniques.

(2) To develop and rehearse collective drills such as Diving Techniques, Rescuing Techniques, Floating Techniques and First Aid (CPR) Techniques.

(3) To conduct awareness programmes.

(4) To form lifesaving teams and maintain data bases to be used at future eventualities.
