Disaster Response Trainers Course

a. Aim. To train Officers and ORs in order to fulfill training requirements of trainers’ of the Centre for Disaster Response Training (CDRT) to train student Officers & ORs.

b. Level of Participants. Those appointed to work in the staff positions for disaster response training in the Center for Disaster Response Training of Sri Lanka Army.

c. Objectives. After undergoing this training course, the participants should be able to:

(1) Understand from a trainer’s perspective, the concepts of Disaster Response, Organizations involve including role of Sri Lanka Army in HADR operations, search and rescue operations in broadly, the rescue missions including rope rescues, Urban rescues & water/flood rescues, and also idea about management of nuclear, biological and chemical emergencies, and medical emergencies and to explain the same to the trainees, including effectively handling their questions, doubts, etc.

(2) Acquire mastery over the handling and use of various tools and equipment of search and rescue and other disaster response operations.

(3) Develop the requisite “direct trainers’ skills” including having an understanding of the socio-psychological principles of adult learning.

(4) Use group-centered training methods and other training methodologies such as role playing, simulation, etc.

(5) Prepare lesson plans and use training aids, such as transparencies, slides and power-point presentations.

(6) Plan and conduct mock drills in disaster response; and

(7) Perform as effective trainers in training programs for first responders
