A leadership and disaster risk reduction workshop was successfully conducted by the Sri Lanka Army Centre for Disaster Response and Training by the request of the Divisional Secretary at the Gaga Ihala Korale on 16 Dec 2023. The programme commenced at 0900 hrs and terminated at 1600 hrs on the same day. There were 110 participants, including school students and school leavers, and their ages were between 15 and 20. The Divisional Secretary has organized this event with the collaboration of the World Vision Organization. The prime aim of this workshop was to impart knowledge on leadership and disaster risk management for flooding and landslides, which are very likely to occur in this area. The topics covered were leadership, dining ethics, personal hygiene, and disaster risk management for flooding and landslides first aid and water safty. Following all the theoretical aspects, they underwent a team-building practical session. This event was conducted by Lt Col KVTS Kekulawala Lsc - GSO 1 (Trg), Maj Isuru Kalupahana - CI, Capt Lahiru Jaliyagoda, and ORs instructors with the supervision of Col CP Wickramarathne RSP USP - Comdt at SLACDRT. Mrs. CK Amarakoon - Divisional Secretary, representative from World Vision, and some parents were also present at the event. As the final remarks, Divisional Secretary made a speech and highlighted the contribution and professional approach of the Army in all aspects. Moreover, the dedication of the entre SLACDRT was extremely appreciated by her during the speech.
