ARMY CLEARS DEBRIS TO RESTORE WATER SUPPLY TO NAWALAPITIYA

The recent adverse weather polluted consumable water resources rendering them non-con-sumable. This caused interruptions of water supply for human consumption for daily requirements in several areas, especially in the Central Province.

Troops of the Sri Lanka Army Centre for Disaster Response Training Cleared the clogged debris at the water pumping station which provides clean water to Nawalapotiya town at Hanngran OYa (Dekida).

Heavy tree trunks, branches and other flood carried debris blocked the Hanngran Oya where National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) pumps water to Nawalapitiya town for distribution after purification.

After much effort, all trapped debris was removed and blockages cleared, facilitating water supply for human consumption without interruption.

The Cleaning programme was undertaken with 01 x 16 army soldiers on 17th & 18th Aug 2022 by responding to the request made by NWSDB officials to the Sri Lanka Army.

The Commandant Sri Lanka Army Centre for Disaster Response Training immediately responded to it under the direction of Commander of the Army, Director operation and Director training of the Army Headquarters.
