FIRST RESPONDER BASIC URBAN SEARCH AND RESCUE- TRAINING COURSE - 2022

The “International Search and Rescue Advisory Group’’ (INSARAG) First Responder Basic Urban Search and Rescue Training Course was conducted from 20th June 2022 to 29th June 2022 at the below mention Training centers under 5 phases Covering 10 days. The proceedings were started with the opening remarks by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe RWP RSP MSc ndu psc (Rtd) - Director General, Disaster Management Centre at Fire and Rescue Training Academy (FARTA) Colombo 10. The course was organized by the Disaster Management Center and the final phase with the closing Ceremony organized by the Center for Disaster Response training under the supervision of Commandant Colonel Chaminda Ratnayaka RWP RSP USP. The number of trainers attended for the course are as fol:

Sri Lanka Army - 24
Sri Lanka Air Force - 04
Sri Lanka Navy - 05
Sri Lanka Police/STF - 05
Fire Brigade - 05
Other organization - 02 (Doc/Suwaseriya)

The consolidation exercise of INSARAG First Responder Basic Urban Search and Rescue Training Course was conducted at the Sri Lanka Army Centre for Disaster Response Training (SLACDRT) on 29th June 2022 at the exercise area Kotmale reservoir. The consolidation exercise consists with Landslide Rescue operation and Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) operation. Above mentioned scenarios were demonstrated by the students successfully, applying the theoretical & practical knowledge of the course.

On the same day the certificate awarding ceremony of the course was held at Sri Lanka Army Centre for Disaster Response Training. Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe RWP RSP MSc ndu psc (Rtd) The Director General Disaster Management Centre, Dr. Sapumal Danapala - National Programme Officer - WHO and Ms. Haruka Esaki - INSARAG secretariat Asia and Pacific Region joined through the zoom technology and shared their expertise views on the subject at the ceremony. The course was concluded with the closing remarks by Colonel Chaminda Rathnayaka RWP RSP USP the Commandant - SLACDRT.
