Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue Course – CSSR (Under implement)

Overview - CSSR is an eleven-day course of the Centre for Disaster Response Training for enhancement of emergency response that was developed by the united states agency for international development through office of U.S. foreign disaster assistance (USAID/OFDA) together in collaboration with the miami-dade fire rescue department, Asian disaster preparedness center (ADPC), and national society for earthquake technology Nepal (NSET). The course has been delivered in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan and the Philippines. CSSR course Pakistan adapted version is a 11day course.

Aim - To train officers & other ranks soldiers in order to fulfill training requirements to collapsed structure search and rescue tasks the knowledge and skills necessary to search for, stabilize and extricate victims trapped in collapsed structures using the safest and most appropriate procedures.

Level of Participants - Course modules are designed to meet the basic knowledge and skills for junior & young officer & other rank participants who will be tasked to undertake actions as the first responder in search & rescue teams in Sri Lanka Army.

Objectives - At the completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Procedures required for initiating a collapsed structure rescue operation.
  2. Classification procedures and marking system for collapsed structures.
  3. List the security standards that must be followed in a collapse structure operation.
  4. Maintenance procedures of the tools, equipment and accessories used in a collapsed structure operation.
  5. Different methods for locating voids and the steps to follow in locating possible victims.
  6. Basic techniques for penetrating into a collapsed structure and reaching a victim.
