ARMY ASSISTANCE FOR DISASTER RESPONSE

Due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions, a landslide occurred on 19 November 2025 in the early hours of the morning between Idalgashinna and Ohiya Railway Stations, located near the Haputale Railway Station within the Area of Responsibility of Security Force Headquarters (Central). As a result, the railway line was completely obstructed.

At the time of the incident, a train operating from Badulla to Colombo was unable to proceed further and remained halted at the location. Acting on the directions of the Commander, Security Forces (Central), Major General KAWNH Bandaranayake USP, necessary measures were taken to respond to the situation

Accordingly, a team of 01 x 15 troops from the 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, together with personnel from the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Department of Railways, were deployed to the site. The teams jointly cleared the earth slip and restored the affected railway track to a condition suitable for the continuation of train operations.
