A bus returning from Sri Pada with pilgrims veered off the road and toppled down a precipice in the Norton Bridge area on Sunday, 20 February 2023, killing three persons and hospitalizing 25 individuals.
In a flash, troops belong to 19 Sri Lanka National Guard provided assistance to the civil authorities to rescue pilgrims who had sustained injuries and admitted them to General Hospitals in Watawala and Ginigathhena. The rescue operation was initiated on the directions of Major General Mohan Rathnayake RWP RSP USp ndu, Commander Security Force (Central).
