12 INFANTRY DIVISION GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING LOOKS INTO FACILITIES FOR ‘PAADA YATHRA’ DEVOTEES

In order to find out facilities, provided to temporary Camp sites, water points, Medical Facilities, Counting Centers and Meal Distribution where pilgrims conducting their ‘Paada Yathra’ (foot pilgrimage), bound for Kataragama sacred shrine, Major General Lanka Amarapala General Officer Commanding (GOC), went to those temporary camp sites in the area and spoke to relevant Army troops attending to those devotees on 27 July 2022

23 Gajaba Regiment troops of 122 Infantry Brigade under the 12 Infantry Division, put up water tanks, provided temporary huts, first aid, medicine and all other needs of the pilgrims. Apparently GOC coordinated civil administrative matters in the field with civil administrative authorities

Over seven thousand pilgrims have entered the Yala sanctuary through Kumbukkan Oya area on 22 July 2022 Aafter traversing Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Pottuvil and Kumana areas before entering the borders of the sanctuary. The gate will remain open till 12 July 2022 for devotees participating in Esala festivities
