ARMY CONTRIBUTED TO SAVE THE SACRED SAPU TREE IN PUSUL PITIYA RAJAMAHA VIHARAYA

Pusul Pitiya Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient temple in Kothmale area which is also believed to be where Prince Dutugemunu spent his childhood when king Elara was ruling Anuradhapura. Since the temple is located in the responsible area of Security Forces (Central), the troops of 19 Sri Lanka National Guards provided the labour assistance to remove a Beduru plant which was on the sacred Sapu tree. Accordingly, three Officers and fifteen Other Ranks contributed this on 12 September 2020 under the direction of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General W D C K Costa RSP USP and the supervision of the 111 Brigade.
