Major General GRH Dias USP ndc psc IG assumed duties as the 8th Commander of the Security Force Headquarters (Central) on 30 July 2017 at an auspicious time scheduled at 0950 hours amidst religious observances at the office of the Commander Security Forces (Central).
Major General GRH Dias psc IG reviewed the Guard Turnout and received the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented by troops of 18 Gemunu Watch at the Rendezvous Parade Ground, Diyatalawa. General Officers Commanding 11 and 12 Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers of affiliated Units, Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Force Headquarters (Central) participated in extending well wishes to the new Commander.
Major General G R H Dias was born on 26 April 1964. He is a proud product of Thurstan College, Colombo. He was a brilliant sportsman during his school days, After the completion of Advanced Level (A/L) examination in 1983, he joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 05 March 1984 to the Officer Cadet Intake 19. On the successful completion of the Officer Cadet training he was commissioned as a 2/Lt on 16 November 1985 and subsequently posted to the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery.
During his 33 years of dedicated service to the motherland he has held many Commands, Staff and instructional appointments. Such as, Commanding Officer 8 SLA, Commander 514 Brigade, Commander 112 Brigade. Moreover, he had the rare opportunity of being the General Officer Commanding of 3 Inf Divs namely 59 Div,65 Div and 12 Div.
In addition, he has an illustrious military career having held many appointments such as Staff Officer II at Artillery Brigade, Commandant of School of Artillery, Colonel (GS) at SLAVF, Centre Commandant Special Forces, Centre Comdt- SLA, Principle Staff Officer at SLAVF, Brigadier (GS) of SFHQ (J), and Director - Institute of Post Graduate Studies at Kotelawala Defence University.
During his distinguished military career, Maj General Rukmal Dais has attended number of local and overseas courses. To name few, Artillery Young Officer Course in Pakistan in 1986, Regimental Survey Course in India in 1990, Artillery Advance Gunnery Course in India in 1994, Gunnery Staff Course in Pakistan in 1997, Senior Command Course in India in 2001, National Defence Course in Bangladesh in 2013. Also, he is a proud graduate of Defence Services Comd and Staff College. In addition to the above, he has also participated in the Pacific Environment Security Conference at Honolulu, Hawaii.
In recognition of his unblemished service to the motherland, he has been awarded with the UTHTHAMA SEVA PADAKKAMA.
