Giving prominence to all the rituals and traditions a Grand New Year Festival was organized by the Security Force Headquarters (Central) to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. This was organized with the participation and the directions of Major General PUS Vithanage RSP ndu, Commander Security Forces (Central), at the Muthukumaru Ground Diyatalawa on 11 April 2017. The active participation as well as the close support of the under command Units and Training schools made this event a success.
The Commander Security Forces (Central) hoisted the National Flag in order to mark the commencement of the games of the New Year Festival. The 'Arachchila Niwasa' and the 'Gami Gedara' which were built at the festival area grabbed the attention of participants since it has become a very rear sight of the present day.
Furthermore, the festival was not only for Army personnel and their families but also it was open to civilians as well. As a result, civilians mingled with others when participating in all the events with a great enthusiasm since the New Year Festival was fully fledged with all the traditional games and other festive events. The winners of the games received valuable prices from the Commander Security Forces (Central), and other senior Officers who grassed the occasion. The musical evening which was organized as a part of the day's event added more glamour with the music supplied by the SL Army Band and the Army dancing troop also made colorful to the evening to entertain the audience.
