"FOXHILL GREEN" REFORESTATION PROJECT INITIATED IN DIYATALAWA

The first phase of Diyatalawa 'Foxhill Green' Reforestation Project, organized by the Security Force Headquarters (Central), was initiated on 24 July 2015 at 'Fox Hill' mountain range, Diyatalawa after a brief ceremony.

The project was initiated on a concept of Major General A.K.S Perera WWV RWP RSP USP ndu, the Commander SFHQ (Central) and the financial sponsorship of the event was offered by the S-LON Lanka (PVT) Limited and the media sponsorship was offered by the Sirasa Media Network. Tri-service personnel and the Police personnel, civil sector environmental activists, school students and invited guests took part in the 'Fox Hill Walk' started at the Polo grounds at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA).

A total of 1200 tree saplings inherent to the area such as Jackfruit, Kumbuk, Pomegranate, Guava, Starfruit, and Avocado were planted in an area of nearly 2300 acres. Invited guests, including District Secretary for Badulla, Director and General Manager of Capital Maharaja Organization, Group Director of Capital Maharaja Organization and senior officers of the Diyatalawa Garrison participated in the inauguration of the project.

The effort made by the Army personnel with the intention of preserving the environment and its bio-diversity, was highly commended by all who were present at the event.
