The railway line running from Badulla to Colombo was obstructed due to a slight landslip erupted near the Diyatalawa railway station during the night hours on 10 January 2024. The rail track was completely blocked, and traffic was temporary discontinued given to the extreme weather condition across the area
At the notice of the situation, troops from Security Force Headquarters (Central) headed towards the scene, and made fatigue to remove the collapsed earth mounds from the train track. The army members were supported by the staff of Diyatalawa Station to successfully restore the train movements within few hours
