TROOPS RESCUED GROUP OF STUDENTS WHO LOST THEIR WAY IN HANTHANA

A group of students (09 x Male & 08 x Female ) belongs to faculty of Law in University of Colombo had lost their way back from the Hanthana mountain range due to prevailed bad weather condition on 29 March 2018 and Kandy Divisional Secretary, Mr H M P Hitisekara has requested the military assistance from Major General A W M A W N Ranawana RWP RSP ndc psc, the General Officer Commanding of 11 Division of Security Forces (Central) to launch rescue missions.

Responding to that request, General Officer Commanding of 11 Division instructed the troops to launch rescue missions under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General GRH Dias USP ndc psc IG. Accordingly, 2 Officers and 16 soldiers from 2(V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment have taken prompt actions around 2000 hours despite the cold as well as bad weather existed at that night and they have been able to find the lost students safe around 2115 hours on 29 March 2018. On the same day around 2330 hours they have handed over the students to Kandy Police.
