The wild fire occurred on 20 August 2018 in Horombuwa area, in the Monaragala District was doused by the troops on the direction of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General G R H Dias VSV USP ndc psc IG. The affected area is located in the responsible area of 121 Brigade of Security Forces (Central).
A team consisting of one officer and twenty five soldiers from 18 battalion the Gemunu Watch reached the place immediately and doused the fire under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of 18 GW.
