SRI LANKA ARMY LAUNCHES SACRED SITE CLEANING CAMPAIGN AT WADASITIKANDA ON 07 AUGUST 2025

In a gesture of cultural preservation and community service, the Sri Lanka Army, in collaboration with the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Programme, carried out a comprehensive cleaning campaign at the Wadasitikanda historical and sacred site on 07 August 2025.

The initiative was conducted on the concept of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the Commander of the Army and under the guidance of Major General Nalin Bandaranayake USP, the Commander Security Forces (Central) and Major General Wishwajith Vidyananda RWP RSP USP, Commander of the 12 Infantry Division with the supervision of Brigadier Dhammika Jayarathna psc, Commander of the 122 Infantry Brigade.

A special environmental cleanup programme was successfully carried out in the Wadasitikanda sacred premises under the leadership of the Sri Lanka Army.The initiative was conducted under the 122 Infantry Brigade Headquarters, with the active participation of officers and other ranks from the 12th Battalion of Gajaba Regiment and the 3rd Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard.

During the programme, Army personnel were able to remove a significant amount of waste collected in the area. This included:

* 288 kg of polythene

* 391 kg of plastic

* 30 kg of glass

* 39 kg of iron

* 24.5 kg of miscellaneous waste

The effort not only contributed to preserving the sanctity of the site but also highlighted the Sri Lanka Army’s continued commitment to national heritage and community welfare.
